We are in the waning days of Summer here in the Delaware Valley and early fall produce is appearing while hot weather items still abound.
The variety of tomatoes is overwhelming. I picked up a quart of mixed small tomatoes in various sizes and colors. Peppers in every color from pale yellow to deep purple. I chose a red and an orange ones. Pole limas are starting, the zukes are beautiful, and dinosaur kale appeared for the first time. Green and Wax beans are not as abundant but they remain nice -- picked up a couple of quarts, a dozen small eggs and some small potatoes. Yes, I have cans of tuna in the pantry so there will be Nicoise salad for lunch this week!
Picked up
Malabar spinach for the first time. It is an asian/African variety. Looks to be a little heavier and darker than what we usually grow around here. I’d welcome tips on how to cook and handle it as everything I have found on the web warns that overcooking can turn it slimy.
