Wait Time

In a recent restaurant review on Yelp.com - someone wrote:

...The last time I was here it was an agonizing wait; granted it was a Friday evening but still for arriving at 7:40 and for 3 people to not be seated until 9 is just crazy. Maybe I would have gone elsewhere if they had been honest about the wait time, but they said 20 min...

My open question: In that situation, how long would YOU wait? Would you wait at all? I'm curious to read your thoughts - so please click and share your com… Continue

Knock Philadelphia

No - I'm not demanding that you knock Philly - heaven knows it's been knocked around enough!

I finally had the time to check out Knock Restaurant for dinner a couple weeks ago - and thought I'd share my two cents.

First some backgroun… Continue

Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant

My partner and I stopped into Fado last night after a day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It had been well over a year since my last visit - but we were simply craving burger-food, so we figured this was good as any.

Stop The Presses!

Upon settling into our table, our server hands us brand-spanking-new menus; literally 24-hours old.… Continue

XIX

Fine dining without draining your bank account - that is the XIX experience.

What was once Founders at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel - which was the place where red velvet curtains and stuffy chairs went to die - XIX has been transformed into a clean, soothing dining room overlooking the Avenue of the Arts from its 19th floor location within the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue.

Now, dining in t… Continue

Chloe

Chloe is a hidden treasure buried within Old City! Chloe began seven years ago when Dan Grimes and Mary Ann Ferrie decided to form their own restaurant - after years of working together at The Latest Dish.

The found a wonderful spot - tiny in size - but perfect in atmosphere. The place is candlelit to a warm glow and it is the interaction between the dining cu… Continue

CasiNotes: Borgata serving up celeb chefs

IT HAS to be a foodie's ultimate fantasy: Getting up-close-and-personal with a slew of superstar chefs while sampling some of their dishes.

Newspaper collects 420,000+ lbs. of food

Brian Tierney, chief executive officer of Philadelphia Media Holdings, flanked by several boxes overflowing with food, announced yesterday that more than 420,000 pounds of food had been collected for Philabundance and the Food Bank of South Jersey.

Joe Sixpack: Beer cocktails: Could it be?

WHETHER it's the result of genetic imprinting or intelligent design, instinct compels me to avoid - at all costs - the menace known as beer cocktails. I'm inflexible on this: Mixing beer and anything else in a glass is physically risky and probably morally wrong.

Good Taste

It's been a long time coming for Snackbar, but this ever-adventurous corner for avant-garde eats off Rittenhouse Square has finally found the happy medium between innovation and accessibility. Gone are the cumbersome lounge seats in favor of actual tables. Gone are the overambitious prices, with entrees in a neighborhood-friendly $20-and-under range.

Pots of clay make her day

I don't think I've ever met a clay cooking pot I didn't like . . . or want to own.

Tina Fey: Ambassador Of Sandwiches

Leave it to a Philly girl to show the world what it really means to love sandwiches. Last week, in the critically acclaimed, utterly hilarious 30 Rock, Tina Fey’s character Liz Lemon rattled off the following raison d’etre: All of humankind has one thing in common: the sandwich. I believe that all anyone really wants in [...]

Kobe Burger And Handcut Fries: A Union You Can Trust

Union Trust is one of the most dramatic restaurant spaces in Philadelphia, and their new $7.17 menu is a dramatic deal for budget-conscious diners.  Featuring a kobe beef burger (in addition to other drink and food specials,) Union Trust is making the classic steakhouse burger more affordable and accessible. Chef de Cuisine Chaz Brown’s 8oz kobe [...]

A Banh Mi For Me At Q.T.

When Annie Tran opened Q.T. Vietnamese Sandwich a year ago, she wanted to offer a banh mi that was closer to the authentic sandwiches than anything she could find in South Philadelphia.  And to ensure that the food was true to the traditional, she brought in her mother, whose recipes come directly from cooking at [...]

Happy Birthday, Dear Earl of Sandwich

Today marks the 291st birthday of John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich. The story goes that this noble fellow was quite the gambler, so much so that he would go on nonstop benders seated at the card table. As one can wield a meal of meat and cheese between bread in one hand, and [...]

The Sandwich Cost Calculator

In light of the economic downturn, many have turned to the most affordable, satisfying and customizable meal: the sandwich. But how much are you really saving by packing a sandwich to bring to work or school? To answer that very question, Rob Cockerham set out on a mission, which eventually turned into a project for [...]
